Showcase 4. Payment Ingots and Coins from the 11h-17th Centuries

Showcase 4 incorporates rare numismatic items – silver ingots, gold and silver Russian and foreign coins, which in the old days were preserved within the Moscow Kremlin treasuries of grand princes and tsars, noblemen, monasteries, as well as underground depositories of the Kremlin’s administrative offices.

This chapter gives a lively idea of the Kremlin’s underground treasuries, an opportunity to trace the history of the Russian monetary system, the development of various types of money through several historical periods, particular importance of several types of coins, and extensive trade relations of the Moscow state.
